28.04.2019 | WBSC

World No. 5 Argentina unveiled its Men’s Softball National Team roster for the WBSC Men’s Softball World Championship 2019, slated to be played in Prague and Havlickuv Brod, the Czech Republic, from 13-23 June. The South American squad looks to claim its first-ever Softball World Championship medal.

Head Coach Julio Gamarci has included 12 veterans from the 2017 World Championship squad that earned fourth place in Whitehorse, matching the best performance ever for the South American nation in this kind of events.

Worldwide known for its prolific production of top-level pitchers, Argentina named a four-man, all right-handed pitching staff for the World Championship. Veteran fireballer Juan Potolicchio will be joined by two-time Junior World Champions Roman Godoy and Huemul Mata, and Pablo Migliavacca (also Junior World Champion in 2012), in his first senior World Championship appearance.

In the offensive side, catcher Bruno Motroni will lead the Argentine lineup again, playing his fifth consecutive World Championship. Nicolas Carril is another powerful bat in the team, projected to hit in the middle of the lineup.

Argentina will land in Europe on May 31 to start a 4-day training camp in Rome, Italy, before heading to Prague on June 4, to get ready for the World Championship.

Argentina will be fighting in Group A aiming to make the playoffs for the sixth time in a row. The white and blue team will take on Botswana to open the round robin, on 14 June in Havlickuv Brod. Cuba, host Czech Republic, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand and the Philippines complete a very competitive field of rivals for Argentina.
